“Love for languages is the best thing in the world”, said every language lover ever.
How great would it be if you could work what you actually enjoy doing. In that case, a job will never be boring for you and you won’t have to forcefully push yourselves to work every day.
So if you have passion for learning languages, you can definitely turn this passion into profession. Gone are the days when the only career options we had were being a doctor or an engineer. Globalization has brought a lot of opportunities for language learners. The MNC's are offering great job opportunities to multilinguals. This is the perfect time to kick start your foreign language journey as a career option. The scope of each language is very wide and offers a number of options to choose.
Following are the career paths you can take after learning a foreign language:-

Ø  Translator

This is the first word that will come to your mind while thinking of learning a foreign language. This profession is popular but not the only option for language enthusiasts like us. If you’re good with the text and sharp with the words you can easily join the group of translators. You can also take up some short term translation projects as a part-time job. Translators are usually paid per word wise; depending on the languages and projects. You can also enrol yourselves in various courses for translation to be more professional at it.

Ø  Content Reviewer

This position title is trending as a lot of multinational companies are looking for individuals who are proficient with understanding of a foreign language. In simple words, a content reviewer usually makes any content suitable for publishing or advertising. I have worked as a content reviewer for 2 years and although this is not as challenging as other titles but is a very comfortable and an easy option for language learners in India. The job role depends based on organisations you are working with. But as the name suggests, you are required to review certain content in the respective languages.

Ø  Foreign Language Teacher

This position demands proficiency in the desired language, the position doesn’t only limit to schools but also at universities, institutes or even online. Foreign language teachers are paid slightly better than teachers of other subjects. These days certain MNCs also hire language professionals to work as corporate language trainers. For this profession, just knowing a language is not enough, but you need to have perfection at it.

Ø  Tour Guide

This job existed before the globalization took place, tourism existed before and will exist forever. If you love to travel and want to meet people who share the same passion while you being the one who’s getting paid while showing them around, go for it. It is not a very fancy option here in India. I haven’t met many females being tour guides here. Although this is not everyone’s cup of tea, it still is very popular and will help you earn good amount of money. This job role lets you to travel and stay connected to the language at the same time. It will require you to interact with people who can speak a particular language.

Ø  Interpreter

If you’re not interested in teaching or you are someone who wants to utilize every bit of hard work you did by learning a foreign language. You can choose to be an interpreter only if you are fluent like a native as this title requires you to l interpret the information from point A to B without any misunderstanding. This position requires someone who is on top of their language skill, not just with grammar but also with the pronunciation.

Ø  Work in MNC, KPO, BPO, IT

The private sector is offering a number of jobs for language professionals. Knowledge of some foreign language is always an added perk for your resume. It makes you more desirable than other candidates in the queue. There’s a great demand for foreign language experts in this sector and the salary packages offered to language experts are slightly higher than others. If you have expertise in some specific field, you can club that with the language and it will be an added benefit for you. Like some job roles require finance professionals with expertise in foreign language, some require communicating with natives.

Like it’s said, “With languages, you are at home anywhere”. So if you can make language a part of your career, you’ll enjoy your work as much as you enjoy learning languages. Learning a language is a never ending thing. You can never have enough of a language. If you are working with the language on daily-basis, you’ll always stay in touch with it along with making money out of it.
